Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaftis a research institution with a thematic focus on Health Sciences, Social Sciences and the Humanities, and is specifically targeting new research topics in Austria. Together with academic and implementing partners, the LBG is currently running 18 institutes and develops and tests new forms of collaboration between science and nonscientific actors such as companies, the public sector and civil society. Socially relevant challenges, to which research can contribute, are to be recognized and taken up at an early stage.
In 2016, the LBG Open Innovation in Science Center, which is revealing the potential of Open Innovation in science, was launched. In addition, the LBG Career Center, which is supporting 200 pre and postdocs, has been set up. The Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft employs 550 people. The total budget for the year 2016 amounted to 28.4 million euros; about 30 percent of the funds come from the budget of the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy.
