The Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) is an independent, non-university research institute in Vienna (Austria). It brings together high-level expertise from various disciplines (economics, sociology, and political science, among others) to address fundamental economic and social problems and policy choices. The IHS has a long tradition of evaluation of policy interventions (labour market, education, science and research). With regard to science and research its field of expertise focus on

  • Monitoring and evaluation of programmes and policies in science and research
  • Development of indicators for monitoring and evaluation in the context of RRI
  • Monitoring and evaluation of gender equality in science and research

The IHS was founded in 1963 under the auspices of two esteemed scholars, Paul F. Lazarsfeld and Oskar Morgenstern with a generous grant from the Ford Foundation. Today, the Institute is funded by Federal Ministries, other public organizations and by commissioned research. Currently the IHS counts approximately 100 researchers.
